Premier League-winning former Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has been appointed to the board of anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out.

Morgan, 39, guided the Foxes to their first Premier League title in 2016.

“I’m looking forward to working with Kick It Out at a time when attempts to tackle discrimination are gathering pace,” said Morgan.

Last season Kick It Out received a 65% rise in reported incidents of discriminatory behaviour.

In July the organisation said it received a record-high 1,007 reports from grassroots level, the professional game and across social media.

Morgan said: “Although there are still some areas to tackle, we have seen the power of greater diversity among professional players in the men’s game.

“I want to help build on that to ensure there is better representation of all communities in the women’s game, coaching and leadership positions.”

Morgan, who made 30 appearances for Jamaica, retired after the 2020-21 season, in which Leicester won the FA Cup.

He is one of four new appointments to the board and was voted for unanimously by the Football Association, the Premier League, the English Football League and the Professional Footballers’ Association to be their sole board representative.
