England’s first Test against Pakistan will start on Thursday as scheduled after the tourists confirmed they are able to field an XI.

An illness affecting the England camp had led to discussions over postponing the match by a day.

Around 14 members of the party of players and coaches were hit and only five players trained on Wednesday.

From the XI England named on Tuesday only Ben Foakes has been deemed unfit, with Will Jacks coming in.

Off-spinning all-rounder Jacks makes his Test debut in place of his Surrey team-mate, while Ollie Pope takes over as wicketkeeper.

Lancashire all-rounder Liam Livingstone also makes his Test debut and opener Ben Duckett plays his first Test in six years.

England, in their first Test in Pakistan for 17 years, won the toss and chose to bat first.
